That is just one of the many helpful suggestions drummed into Baz Luhrmann’s Sunscreen Song (which is originally an essay written by Mary Schmich). That is also one of those pieces of advice found in the song that are certainly never followed.

Most teenage girls surely have read, or at the very least have flipped through, the pages of some of the popular fashion and beauty magazines that we have today: Seventeen, Vogue, Cosmo, etc. It has been suggested however that reading this kind of magazines does make young readers somehow feel ugly.

Looks. This is what these magazines seem to prioritize. Take just at least a single glance at the cover of one of these magazines. Flooding it are headlines such as dress to impress, be a knockout and lose that extra weight. Most of its articles usually revolve around making oneself simply look good and become more beautiful. But what is beautiful anyway? If we will take out its definition based on what is shown on these magazines, being beautiful apparently means being equal to tall, fair and skinny girls with straight long locks of hair. What about those who don’t fall on this group though?

The importance being placed on the appearance is not only seen on the contents of the articles of those magazines. Scan its pages and observe how more pages are allotted to advertisements which usually showcase the typical teen as someone with perfect and polished looks. However, it isn’t entirely the fault of these magazines. Teenagers will naturally be bombarded with self-esteem issues, whether they read beauty magazines or not. Though only by looking at the pages of these magazines, which constantly tell them at an early age that their bodies are not good enough and that they need continuous enhancement, their attitude towards their bodies are worsened to the point that they do not only have low self-esteem but hatred towards themselves.

Studies show that looking at thin, sexualized and digitally-enhanced images of women on magazines, more often than not, result to young girls’ experiences of poor body image, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. A five-year study also found that reading beauty and fashion magazines is associated with wanting to lose weight and initiating diets. Reading dieting advice in magazines is associated with skipping meals, smoking, vomiting and using laxatives among teenage girls.

Their bodies seem to become the “personal project” of young girls. They are encouraged to see themselves as objects, to value themselves for their looks rather than as a whole person. What is even sadder about this is how some girls end up risking their health in aspiring to look like the unattainable images of models and celebrities on the pages of magazines. What these girls don’t know-or probably refuse to know-is that what they see on these magazines is not reality. The images of those Barbie-ish models and celebrities are apparently Photoshopped. Moreover, they do not represent the ordinary teenage girl.

Adolescent girls need not stop reading beauty and fashion magazines completely. After all, no matter how these magazines affect girls negatively, we couldn’t also deny the fact that these are able to help in some ways, especially with the inspiring and empowering articles that these magazines offer as well.

What teenagers must learn to do instead is to identify, among the countless images and ideas that they are fed, which ones to nurture and which to not. We just don’t want more girls, due to major mishaps, piling up and waiting to be treated by nurses and physicians with various medical equipments and home healthcare products. This can be avoided, especially if we keep in mind that beauty really is only skin deep anyway. Cliché, yes, but true.

Everyone loves bouncy castles, they are great for kids parties, even adult ones, offering the chance for children of all ages to enjoy themselves bouncing around. However, if you are hiring a bouncy castle, what are the major considerations you need to make before signing on the dotted line? Hopefully the following article will give an idea of how it is possible to find inflatables that are fun, affordable and above all safe.

One of the best tips for hiring or buying bouncy castles is to see the inflatable in person. A photograph will only show you so much, also it may not give you a genuine idea of the quality and current condition of the inflatable. Additionally, seeing the castle gives a better idea of dimensions and will give you a better chance of understanding whether it will fit in your proposed space.

It is also worth taking the time to ask the hire company or retailer whether there are any special rules relating to the use of the inflatable by children or adults. Often bouncy castles designed for children may not be suitable for adults as the structure of the inflatable would most likely have to be different to allow for the extra weight carried by older users. In addition there also may be other rules relating to the environment in which the inflatable will be used, particular if there are high winds or rain when using the inflatable can become dangerous. Finally, it is always worth considering how many people will be allowed on the inflatable at any one time and whether a responsible person will be in charge to ensure these numbers are stuck to.

Most hire companies should be able to offer some form of bouncy castle liability insurance. This can be considered essential as accidents can happen and even if you are operating the inflatable with a group of friends, liability insurance will help if any serious injuries occur and legal action is taken. Equally it is important to look at insurance if you are buying the inflatable; this may mean obtaining a private policy whenever the castle is used.

Most hire companies will have some form of deposit scheme to protect the inflatable from accidental damage. Damage can occur frequently, particularly punctures and tears; subsequently by making sure that the hire company allows for this accidental damage is essential. This is also a factor if you own the inflatable, by ensuring that no sharp objects are ever allowed onto the bouncy castle there is a better chance that it will be undamaged after its use.

The preceding article has highlighted some of the most important considerations for those looking at bouncy castles for sale or hire for use at parties and events. Essentially it sets out the need to find a reputable and responsible dealer or hire company as well as the importance of safety when using inflatable equipment.

There is a re-launch of Harry Potter range of the building toys by the Lego in 2010 with a whole new range of sets, which are due for release in the month of October. One of the sets includes a reproduction of a fan favorite house, the Burrow. For all those who are not in the know of Harry Potter, the burrow is just another name for the house which belongs to the Weasley family.

Ron Weasley is a best friend of Harry Potter and we first got to visit this really strange home in the second book, Chamber of Secrets. The house was described by JK Rowling in the minutest detail and she even highlighted its layout and unique wizarding furniture. J.K Rowling also explained it’s rather strange and haphazard built over several levels which were stable in its place not because of any mortar but magic.

This set describes a particular scene from the book number six, Harry potter and the Half Blood Prince, where Weasley family and Harry are together for celebrating Christmas but were attacked by the Lord Voldemort’s two death Eaters, Fenrir Greyback and the Bellatrix Lestrange. They both are featured in this particular set and for the first time they are featured by Lego as minifigures.

Lego has also featured Mrs. (Molly) and Mr. (Arthur) Weasley and Ginny Weasley for the first time. Harry Potter has been featured in a specially designed grey and blue torso. These all figures are really amazing. They have been intricately detailed and are well designed. Most of the figures come with two expressions on their heads. As per the figures list this set is going to be very popular with the Harry Potter and Lego fans!

The house consists of a haphazard structure of three levels along with a pig pen and fire which can easily transport the figures by flu powder. A nice color scheme has been selected by Lego for the house with a large portion of the structure using brown and dark red with light blue and white highlights. There is a separate room for each floor along with a kitchen and two bedrooms.

Regardless of the reviews about the house, the figures will attract the maximum attention of the fans and this set will be a great hit just ahead of the release of seventh movie in the November.

The Harry Potter series of fun and fantasy filled books, though were initially penned for young children, has some genuine lessons for life. These books are read and enjoyed by people of all age groups and they all can benefit by following these lessons.

Have you noticed? There is magic all around us.
Even though wizards and witches live and side to side with Muggles and non magical people, they are not aware of this fact. In fact there is a magic around us in air, the magic of this universe. We people are simply blind to this immense beauty and magic which encircles us in our day to day life.

Courage is taking action in spite of fear.
It has been seen that time and again, Harry Potter along with his friends works by his values and instincts, loves to take challenges even when warned by others. Now, this is courage. It is not that people who have courage do not feel fear of anything, but just the values and thinking prompts them to do action in face of any of fears.

Believe in the importance of friends and mentors.
Harry Potter has to struggle when he fails to be in the company of his friends and well wishers, but rises and easily passes all the hurdles when he consults them and relies on them. Though we may be most brilliant, yet when we are alone, we are not as courageous or as competent when we work with others in companionship.

Always play to your strengths.
Each of the witches or even wizards have their own weakness or strengths. Similar is with Harry Potter and his friends. When Harry makes use of his flying skills and immense courage and when Hermione uses her research capabilities with young witches and wizards, they are easily able to face challenges which sometimes can scare many courageous warriors.

We should always rely on our strengths and are happy when we are most creative, and when we build and move with power of strength.

If you believe in yourself then it makes it so.
In spite of their immense magical powers, the wizards and witches in Harry Potter adventures amply state that life truths are totally dependent on our beliefs.

This fact was clearly demonstrated when Ron, thinking that after taken the potion which guarantees him a luck all through the day, plays a keeper so superbly in that day’s Quidditch match.

Always believe in the power of love.
As a child, Harry won each of battle he fought against the Dark Lord, Voldemort, who was so fearsome that many of adult witches and wizard would fear even his name, is again and again stymied by this young Potter. His advantage, as per his mentor, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is love.

Though Harry Potter and his friends faced immense difficulties when they ventured out to gain success, they remained focused on the positive result. You can also win life with just that positive mindset.

In older days animated movies were developed by artiest who created pictures of moving figures. In today’s World animation is based on latest technology of new age. The modern day animator just sits on the computer and does image manipulation to add motion and develops the animated pictures.

Earlier animation pictures like Cindella, Snow White…etc were mainly watched by kids. Now such is the craze that few of grown ups can be seen in picture halls enjoying the stuff like Nemo or Shrek.

When we glance the list of top ten animated movies, we gather that they all are new with older being made in 1992.

One of the greatest of animated picture was “Shrek 2″ which was produced by Disney and was out in the year 2004. “Shrek 2″ was out just three years after its earlier version “Shrek” came on the scene and went on to become the highest grosser of all times. It was declared the 9′th most profitable movie to be ever made.

Then second best one is “Finding Nemo”. It was produced by DreamWorks. The third best movie was “The Lion King” which came in 1994. Fourth place belong to “The Incredible” which was out in 2004. Fifth animated picture “Monster’s Inc” (2001) was a best in its class.

The 8′th animated movie was another of good work of DreamWorks “Madagascar” which came out in 2005. It was a big grosser at its time. 7′th movie “Aladdin” was released in 1992 and was DreamWorks movie.

The eight animated picture “Toy Story 2″ was a Disney’s production in 1999. The ninth animated movie was one and only “Shrek” in 2001 which huge worldwide gross income of more than $ 484,408,220, which was about half of what “Shrek 2″ earned.

The 10′th animated movie which came out in the year 1999 was “Tarzan” and was a Disney movie.

We can see that Disney and DreamWorks are one of the leaders in animation movie business and have been providing kids with great fun all these years around. The latest advancement in animation technology has contributed a lot to their efforts to provide quality fun to kids all around the Globe.

Many people have a view that sequels are just released to cash in on the popularity of earlier movie versions and have nothing solid to offer to the audience. However, the sequels like Toy Story or Shrek 2 have shown that good animation and story is key to success.

As we see above, animated movies have generated immense interest since their inception and have had a great impact on child entertainment industry as it has reached new levels. They had provided good education and high quality content and entertainment to children around the World.

Locker shelves are an essential accessory for school lockers. Most lockers, if not all, have a small usable space inside and one of the benefits of the shelves is they help increase this space. In addition, they also serve as a major player in helping students keep their lockers organized.

The shelves are typically constructed with metal, wood, or plastic and although each have its limitations and its benefits, they are intended to be long-lasting and to have the ability to withstand the weight of several heavy textbooks.

In selecting a shelf, the type of material the shelf is built with must be considered. There are two different types metal shelves, heavyweight and lightweight. Both are inexpensive and can be found easily. There are however, differences between the two. Heavyweight metal shelves are completely durable but because they usually cannot be adjusted it pose a problem when a student has large textbooks to put in their locker. Lightweight metal shelves, on the other hand are adjustable, but they cannot withstand the heavy weight.

Plastic is another popular material locker shelves are made of. These, similar to the heavyweight metal shelves, are not adjustable and pose a problem for larger textbooks. They are however, capable of carrying the weight of heavy textbooks. Also, the plastics shelves come in a wide array of colors.

All these factors should be considered when choosing the right locker shelf. Having your child start the year off with good organization habits is important but you want them to continue those habits throughout the school year so be sure to get the right shelf that will fit their needs.

Choose the Right Lock for your School Locker

School locker locks will be one of the most important accessories your student will have on his or her supply list. Decorating a school locker is always fun but ensuring their belongings are safe is more important. It would be nice if theft did not have to be a consideration, as if students do not already have enough to worry about. But sadly enough there are school thieves and for that reason taking time out to choose the right lock for their locker is something that is not an option.

There are schools that have combination locks built into the lockers, but increasingly schools are doing away with those and having students apply their own. The good news is that there are not thousands of locks available to choose from so selecting the right one is not complicated. When it comes to locks for school lockers there are typically two different kinds of locks to choose from. There are combination locks also known as combination padlocks and there are key locks.

Let’s take a look at combination locks the more common of the two. These typically have a dial and a preset, three or four number combination used to open the lock. Remembering the code can, at times, be a challenge to some students as well as remembering the proper sequence needed to open the lock.

Key locks are simply put, locks that require a key to open them. There is no combination to memorize and they open by way of a key. Most, if not all locks do come with a spare key. This may be the better option if trying to remember a code is not an option. The problem with key lock is, the student may run the risk of losing the key. Students should always keep their key on a keychain that they can either keep around their neck or clip on to a belt loop on their pants.

Both combination locks and key locks provide the security your student needs in securing his or her belongings that are put in their lockers at school. Be sure to make that a top priority when purchasing their back to school supply.

Back to school time is a fun and exciting time for students and they love to put their personalities into their lockers. Julie L. Fisher gives lots of locker decorating ideas, information on supplies needed to keep your student organized, while also giving tips and advice on locker safety.

Here is a checklist for really cool kids, aged tween to teen. If you have a son or grandson, this list makes a great gift list.

Gaming system. Our kids are absolutely obsessed with their video games. Even before they get one, your kid will know which one is cooler in his crowd, the PS3 or the X-Box. Don’t even try to reason with him once he is set on a gaming system. If all his friends love PS3s, then it’s a pretty fair bet that he will too. Same for the X-Box. Kids love to socialize around their video games.

The clothes make the kid. Around middle school, boys start to get a sense of fashion. For them, this usually means no more KMart clothes. Popular brands for kids and teens are Aeropostle, Abercrombie, and Hollister. The Gap is officially out, and sometimes they will accept American Eagle clothes. Nikes and Converse are always acceptable brands for sneakers.

iPod. They love their music and will definitely want an iPod. You can choose from a variety of cool colors and models. A few years ago, they only had a Shuffle and a Nano, but today there are a lot more choices, and most can hold more songs than they’ve ever even heard of. Kids also love to accessorize their iPods with cool cases, ear buds, and docking stations.

Cellphone with texting plan. Once your kids reach their tweens and teens, they will need a cellphone and texting plan. Today’s generation of kids don’t talk or use landlines- they text. You can shout and pull your hair out, or save your sanity by just accepting it. Hey, you can even learn to text so you can communicate with your kid!

Electric Scooters. Bikes are OK for off road adventures, but cool kids love to zip around the neighborhood on electric scooters. When they are properly hooked up, they will receive a text to get to Nick’s house for a Call of Duty tournament on the PS3. Before you even have time to ask what the heck is Call of Duty, they will be out the door and on their electric scooter to join in the fun.

The Electric Razor Scooter e300 makes a perfect gift for that especially cool kid on your list.

If you’re looking for a unique and creative way to potty train your child, consider having a toilet training party. This is an excellent way to encourage your child to use the potty in a fun way. It gives them something they can look forward to and it builds confidence that they will carry throughout their lives. Having a toilet training party can be a great way to help encourage your child to use the potty. While it’s not something that you would normally think about being celebrated in the form of a party, it is an important milestone for your child and it’s essential that you give your child the right start. Making it fun like a party decreases pressure and creates more of a positive experience around the training process, making it easier for your child to learn. Here are some ideas for your toilet training party: · Use a doll or stuffed toy as a way to show your child how to use the toilet. · Put a pair of underwear or training pants on the doll/animal and place the doll on the potty or toilet. · Gather party objects such as hats, streamers, blowers and other goodies (but no sweets or candies). · Then the doll has finished using the potty, celebrate with a big party. Shout, dance, cheer, sing, and blow the blowers. · Do this several times and allow your child to help the doll urinate and use the potty. Then invite your child to celebrate with you. · Then ask your child if she wants to participate in the toilet party. Don’t nag but offer it often. If your child says no, don’t make a big deal out of it. · Once your child agrees to do it, make a big deal over it just like you did with the doll. Throw a big party each time she is successful. The main point of the potty party is to keep the experience positive for your child. If she has an accident, treat it matter-of-factly and just clean it up and allow her to pick new undies. Watch your child closely so you can take her when needed and take her at regular intervals whether she thinks she has to go or not. Always keep it positive and avoid body language that indicates that you are upset with your child. When you create a safe environment, it will be much easier for your child to learn this important milestone.
