Here is a checklist for really cool kids, aged tween to teen. If you have a son or grandson, this list makes a great gift list.
Gaming system. Our kids are absolutely obsessed with their video games. Even before they get one, your kid will know which one is cooler in his crowd, the PS3 or the X-Box. Don’t even try to reason with him once he is set on a gaming system. If all his friends love PS3s, then it’s a pretty fair bet that he will too. Same for the X-Box. Kids love to socialize around their video games.
The clothes make the kid. Around middle school, boys start to get a sense of fashion. For them, this usually means no more KMart clothes. Popular brands for kids and teens are Aeropostle, Abercrombie, and Hollister. The Gap is officially out, and sometimes they will accept American Eagle clothes. Nikes and Converse are always acceptable brands for sneakers.

We all know that kids have active bodies and active imaginations. The more things they have to entertain themselves, the more they will stay out of trouble. Playing can be a great way for kids to exercise their minds and bodies. Using toys to simulate real life can help a child develop her imagination, while working collaboratively with others. So playing not only helps develop the imagination, but it helps with valuable social skills, as well.
Does it matter what type of toys the kids are playing with? When it comes to dolls it might. Since dolls are usually used to mimic real life, having a doll that portrays a positive image could have a more positive effect on how children portray themselves. Some studies have suggested that the unrealistic body image of Barbie, along with airbrushed magazine models, and super perfect Hollywood actresses, can be damaging to a young girls self image.

The Christmas season is upon us and it’s time to get the girl’s red dresses on and the Christmas dress-ups out for family pictures and greeting cards. This years Christmas fashions are spotlighting red and black, which are two colors you can easily incorporate into your child’s Christmas fashions.
For family photographs, try going with the same base color and different accessories or textures. For example, if your chose the color red, let your husband wear his favorite red sweater while you don your satin shirt. Add a belt to your girls red dresses and a button-up shirt to your sons red vest. The slight variations in your dress will allow for more personality to show through in your photograph while the base color will unite the image. Letting your children choose some of the variations, like letting the girls pick out a headband and the boys their tie, will help make Christmas dress-ups not quite as “boring” for your children.
